2023 Vihiga County Anti-Jigger Campaign
Inua Village to Global Foundation (IVTGF) and its partners have been implementing an annual anti-jigger campaign in Emuhaya Sub-County since 2019. A total of 100 households infested with jiggers have been reached and impacted. This number translates to over 800 people who have directly benefited from the intervention. As part of the project, the affected families and community members have received hygiene packs, treatment and continuous psychosocial support. IVTGF has a dedicated team of social workers and community health workers who are in charge of the outreach activities.
This year, IVTGF seeks to expand its reach from Emuhaya Sub-County to Vihiga County. There are a number of proposed activities that are aimed at raising awareness about the increasing cases of jigger infestation within the county.
- Objectives:
- Raise awareness and educate communities on the causes and effects of jigger infestation.
- Provide medical treatment and care for affected individuals.
- Implement sustainable sanitation and hygiene practices in affected communities.
- Train community health workers to identify and treat jigger infestations.
- Promote social inclusion and reduce stigma towards people affected by jiggers.

The 2023 anti-jigger campaign aims to raise awareness on the eradication of the spread of jiggers in Vihiga County and the larger Western Region, Kenya.
The campaign targets vulnerable groups such as children, elderly, and people living with disabilities. It will be carried out through:
- Community outreach and education through school and village visits, community gatherings, and door-to-door campaigns.
- Medical camps and clinics
- Training for Community Health Workers
- Social inclusion initiatives such as sports and cultural events
