World Environment Day 2022
On 5th June 2022 we joined the world to mark the 49th world environmental day under the theme “ONLY ONE EARTH.” Significantly, this was also the slogan for the 1972 conference in Stockholm, where the annual global event was first instituted on June 5.
TheTheme of this year reminds us why it is important to take care of mother earth and how our human actions are causing irreversible damage to our environment.
Through Inua Village to Global Achiever School in Vihiga County, Kenya we mobilized the local community in raising awareness on the importance of taking care of our environment. In partnership with Elizabeth Etere, local environmental champion, we planted over 400 trees in two local police stations; Esirulo and Mungiti Police Stations as well as Esirulo Health Care Center and Mungiti Market. 200 pupils and teachers joined in this exercise.
We also held a cleaning exercise at Mungiti Market, Esirulo Health Care Centerand Esirulo market. Over 400 participants (local members, boda-boda riders, local leaders, parents, children, etc.) participated in the activity.
Preservation of the environment, clean energy, reduction on the contamination to the environment are very key to our organization. And this is evident through our numerous trainings we conduct for our teachers, community workers, volunteers and staff.
As Lady Bird Johnson said-The environment is where we all meet; where we all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share. We hope that you shall continue taking care of the environment around you- your home, school, work place and public spaces.
