Damaris Kanini’s Story
My Name is Damaris Kanini, eighteen years old, born in Machakos. I’m the eldest of four and I have never gotten a chance to know my biological dad. I was raised in an extended family and as a result of the large family, my life turned out to be a bitter chapter. My mother had to work on people’s farms and other casual jobs to put food on the table and educate us. This was not an easy task for a single mother.
My mother had to return to her old job as a house help in order to pay for my primary school education. What she earned was not enough but through the struggle, she managed to save and get me through primary school.
I joined form one with zero shillings and luckily in my second term, Inua village to global foundation team came to Patanisho secondary school. They offered me a platform where I could share my story and luckily they were able to secure a scholarship for me, this was a lifesaver
Years later my mother remarried and now we stay with stepdad. However, during the Covid-19 period, time’s disagreement arose between my mother and step-father, this traumatized and left some of us children with medical illnesses. I have been living on daily medication for close to a year however Inua Village to global foundation gave me hope to work harder through paying my fees, they reached out with covid-19 food packages and all sorts of basic things. This helped harmonize our family, we no longer struggle as much as before.
I have been able to successfully finish high school, pass well and now I look forward to joining university or college, I know they will continue with me till the end of my course.
My life has changed, hope has been renewed and to many that are facing similar challenges in one way or the other, I say to you, never give up, stay on the right path the Lord will send help in mysterious ways. To this far, it has been the efforts of Inua Village to Global Foundation. I want to thank them again and all those who support them. I hope they get more support so they can reach out to others like me and support them too.
Many Thanks
Damaris Kanini
